Venuvana is indeed a bamboo forest. This artistic space is built majorly with bamboo as their primary building material.

A warm welcome at the entrance gate with woven bamboo and bright reddish orange blooms. Making the best use of basic material is the way of life here. The gate latch with made from old bolt and nut. The home made vibe begins right at the gate.
This beautiful home is completely made of Earth.
The age old technique of rammed Earth combined with bamboo roofing and functional design elements adds detail at every level of sight. Located in remote valley of Nepal this house looks out into infinite mountain view.

Design that goes by the utility and not just the aesthetics. This Shoe rack is one such example that serves the purpose and add an interest at the entrance under the shade from sun and rain, also the pets.
Raw wood finish dinning table on one side and a long kitchen counter on the other. All of this under a roof made of woven bamboo sheets over wooden rafters. It's a treat indeed to experience farm grown food in this setup. Clay tiles on the floor brings the earth indoors too. No matter how cold it is outside this part of the house is always warm.
It's the heart of venuvana.
Carefully slicing each bamboo piece, fusing them together with glue forming a flat bamboo sheets. A new technique and craft exploration at the farm that finally becomes the threads and risers which takes us to the first floor corridor. The long double height wall with woven bamboo cladding adds an interesting texture of artistic work.

Hand crafted bath tub made of copper glowing under the bright light. Along with rammed earth and bamboo, another material that is a feature at venuvana is definitely the use of copper. Hand crafted copper articles are locally made in Nepal. This bath room had copper bath tub and wash basin. Absolutely stunning.
Rammed earth wall continues to the upper levels with pitched roof. Bamboo is on roof as structural members and as polished flooring on the ground. It's so interesting to see the endless possibilities of one material so intensive used. Various treatment and technique results in various applications. And a lot of these techniques are developed at venuvana over a period of time. This room extends to a balcony that opens up to the beautiful mountain view
Model in the frame is Barfi. He is a mountain dog also the mascot of this forest.
The Altar, as the architect calls it. Inspired by the colonial church with tapering roof made of bamboo structural members and mud plaster. Texture of the wooden floor adds to the warmth of this space. The light from the glass door and the windows on either side makes this space divine. A creative and meditative space that lets one concentrate and explore.
A basket full of rudraksha collected from the tree at the farm over years, Buddha seated infront in deep meditative state and the warmth of the wooden floor. A conceptual sketch by the designer exploring and new form and structure. This space was so inspiring to just sit and observe the elements around. Just a set out of the wooden door took us to a different experience altogether.

Sitting at the edge of this cantilevered bamboo pavilion with 360° view around the mountains with little creepers and flowering plants swaying with the wind. It's quite, it's peaceful. Barfi, the Himalayan mountain dog loves to spend time looking at the mountain and even an afternoon nap while his master reads a book.
This wild variety was as tall / taller than a 2 story building. Broad and tall leaves with heavy shoot in deep green and vertical grains.
